Jane Fonda Reacts to Sound Flub During Her Speech at SAG Awards 2025
Jane Fonda found humor amid a technical glitch at the SAG Awards 2025, celebrating her achievements with laughter.
On Sunday, February 23, the 87-year-old actress and activist accepted the SAG Life Achievement Award. During her heartfelt speech, she addressed the experience of being a woman in Hollywood when a sound error unexpectedly interrupted her.
Fonda stated, "What we create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls. We know why they do what they do. We feel their joy and their pain." As a pre-recorded track cut her off, she cleverly remarked, "I can conjure voices," eliciting laughter from the audience. She continue without hesitation.
At the 31st SAG Awards, which celebrates notable film and television performances from 2024, Fonda is honored as the 60th recipient of this prestigious award. Films such as Wicked and Shōgun excelled as this year's nominees, leading the pack in recognition.
The award recognizes an established performer who enhances the acting profession's image while actively participating in humanitarian efforts. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher praised Fonda, describing her as "a trailblazer and an extraordinary talent." Drescher acknowledged Fonda as a dynamic force in entertainment, advocacy, and culture, noting her unwavering passion.
Fonda's artistic legacy is accompanied by numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978). Additional honors consist of two BAFTAs, an Emmy, seven Golden Globes, and last year’s TIME Magazine Earth Award. In recognition of her contributions, Women in Film established the annual Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award in 2021.
