Jason Kelce Enters 'Stupid Competition' for Weight Loss After NFL Retirement
Jason Kelce, former center for the Philadelphia Eagles, is embarking on a weight loss journey, PEOPLE reported. Previously sporting the #62 jersey, he shared his experience on the "New Heights" podcast, co-hosted with his brother, Travis Kelce. In the latest episode, released on March 25, Jason revealed he's attempting a weight loss competition with his friend and ex-teammate, Beau Allen.
The 37-year-old has already shed 20 lbs. since retiring from the NFL a year prior. Currently, he weighs 276.6 lbs., down from his peak weight of just over 300 lbs. during his playing days. "I’ve tipped over 300 a couple of times in the NFL," he stated. To effectively compete, Jason underwent a bone density scan, which provided insights about his body composition.
The scan revealed aspects of his health that surprised him. "There is a lot of fat in there!" he admitted. Despite the surprising results, Jason found encouraging news. He noted, "I think I have a good calf-to-hamstring ratio." According to the scan, he possesses a lean mass of "207 lbs. of muscle" and approximately "58.7 lbs. of fat," translating to a body fat percentage of 21%.
Travis couldn’t resist teasing, saying, "You're a f------ hefty load, dude." Jason explained their competitive spirit by saying it's vital for retirees to engage in silly challenges to maintain their sanity.
Over the next three months, Jason's goal is to maximize his body fat loss. He's incorporating regular training as he previously mentioned in an interview with GQ. In June 2024, he had lost around 20 lbs, going from 295 lbs. down to 277 lbs.
"I don't want to get too small," he mentioned. Jason feels that a weight target between 250 and 260 will maintain his size, achieving the look he desires without veering into six-pack territory. Remarkably, he noted that losing weight has already improved his comfort. "My back already feels better. My knees already feel better," he shared, hoping to be more active with his children soon.
