Jason "Sundance" Head Shares How He Accidentally Shot Himself
Days after being hospitalized for a gunshot wound, Jason "Sundance" Head opened up about the terrifying experience. This life-threatening incident occurred while he prepared for a solo hunting trip at his Texas ranch.
Sundance described the frightening moment on Facebook. "I started loading the Jeep to drive to the other side of the property," he recalled. He included a revolver in his backpack, which resembles classic western firearms.
However, the 46-year-old forgot to secure the revolver. When placing the bag in the passenger seat, it fell out, leading to a shocking accident.
"I set it down, and I backed up to walk away and was startled," he continued. "The revolver slid out of the case, hit the door jamb, and shot me."
In shock, the American Idol alum struggled to process the situation until he felt warm blood on his hands.
"The blood came out through my fingers," he stated. "To be honest, I was terrified. That’s when I knew I was shot."
Sundance realized he needed assistance. After discovering his phone was "full of blood," he instinctively took off running for help.
"I jumped our cattle gate like I was 15 or 16 again," he exclaimed, crediting divine intervention.
Once he reached the highway, Sundance attempted to flag down passing vehicles for help.
"After about a dozen cars, a gentleman stopped to assist me," he said. "He was like an angel from heaven. I was never so relieved to see someone."
Following the Nov. 15 incident, Sundance was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas. He was released later that night and is now recovering at home. His wife Misty shared a statement on his Facebook page on Nov. 16.
"The doctor confirmed that Sundance Head does not require surgery," his agent told E! News. "The bullet lodged in a fatty area of his stomach and didn't affect vital organs."
