Jeff Goldblum Discusses Parenting Insights: ‘Another Way of Looking at Things’
Jeff Goldblum shared invaluable advice he received about parenting before becoming a father. The actor, known for his role in "Wicked," reflected on this wisdom while discussing his experiences with his wife, Emilie, a former Olympian. Together, they are parents to two sons, Charlie, 9, and River, 7.
Goldblum recalls a conversation he had when Emilie was expecting Charlie. "Somebody told me, ‘Don’t forget that your kids are hilarious.’ I can’t remember who said it, but it stuck with me," he shared with PEOPLE.
He emphasizes the importance of humor in parenting. "Kids can drive you crazy one moment, yet bring joy in the next. Finding humor helps cope with the drama," he affirms.
The family's dynamic brings Goldblum joy. River recently learned to whistle despite missing some baby teeth, a fact that delights him. Goldblum describes the small gap as "toothy" and finds it both funny and astonishing.
In an issue of PEOPLE featuring his humorous life rules, Goldblum advises parents to maintain humility. Finding grounding forces, like family, is essential. For him, it's his wife, children, and his poodle, Woody. "They don’t care about my career. What matters is being present with them," he states.
Goldblum often reflects on fatherhood. In a previous interview, he described the experience as transformative. He stated, "Fatherhood brings out every emotion, prompting introspection and opportunities for self-improvement."
In another podcast discussion, he conveyed the importance of self-sufficiency to his sons. "You’ve got to row your own boat," he tells them. "It’s crucial to teach kids that they need to work for themselves."
