Julia Stiles Embraces Chappell Roan's Music, Playfully Claims to Be 'Late to The Party'

Julia Stiles has declared her admiration for Chappell Roan, a rising star in the music industry. Stiles, 43, confessed, "I know I’m a little behind the times. I’m a little late to the party, but I can't get Chappell Roan out of my head" in her recent interview with Us Weekly. She noted that Roan's album, which debuted a year ago, offers an inviting vibe to join.

Chappell Roan, aged 26, has gained massive popularity following the release of her debut album, "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," launched in 2023. She received six Grammy nominations for the 2025 awards, including Album of the Year, and won Best New Artist at the recent ceremony held on February 2. Roan delighted the audience by performing her popular hit "Pink Pony Club," one of Stiles’ favorites. Stiles expressed enthusiasm, stating, "First, it was ‘HOT TO GO!’ I know the dance, then it was ‘Pink Pony Club.’ It will not leave my brain. I think she’s amazing."

As Stiles spends time admiring Roan's music, her household enjoys the animated show "Bluey" on repeat. "The show I’m watching the most is "Bluey,"" Stiles said. As a mother of three, she shares her connection to the character Mum, voiced by Melanie Zanetti. She remarked, "I find her very relatable," and expressed fondness for the dad character, humorously calling him "pretty fun."

Navigating parenting and her budding directing career, Stiles revealed her longing for a soothing beach escape. "I love a good beach. I'm a beach, saltwater, and sunshine girl," she stated. Recalling past experiences filming a TV show in France, she expressed her desire to return, though she holds a special place in her heart for the beaches of Costa Rica.

For a perfect beach vacation, Stiles has a list of books she currently loves. She shared, *"Nightbitch because they turned it into a great movie. I'm in the middle of The Pro, and it's such a good book."* She also enjoys *All Fours*, highlighting her recent read of Susan Seidelman’s memoir "Desperately Seeking Something." It resonated with her, owing to her childhood connection to the cinematic classic "Desperately Seeking Susan."

Interestingly, Stiles drew inspiration from "Desperately Seeking Susan" while directing her recent film "Wish You Were Here." The film achieved theatrical release last month, starring Isabelle Fuhrman as Charlotte, whose love deepens with Adam, played by Mena Massoud, amid the struggles of terminal illness. Julia’s sister, Jane Stiles, appears alongside actors Kelsey Grammer and Jennifer Grey.

Stiles believes her roles as an actress and mother enriched her directing journey. "Being a mother is the best training for directing," she stated. "You need strong time management and multitasking abilities, thinking several steps ahead while managing emotions and needs." This experience has molded her creative approach in filmmaking.
