Karen Huger Claims to Be "Thomas Jefferson’s Concubine" After Car Crash
Karen Huger from The Real Housewives of Potomac brought up Thomas Jefferson and Andy Cohen after her car accident in March.
At 61 years old, Huger was found guilty of driving under the influence, among other charges, on December 18. However, she was acquitted of reckless driving. After the trial ended in Rockville, Maryland, prosecutors shared police footage from the night of the incident. Fox 5 DC anchor Marina Marraco posted the footage on X.
In the police dash cam video from March 19, Huger is seen in a police vehicle. She tells an officer she is recognized as the "Grande Dame," a term associated with her persona on RHOP. She adds that "Andy Cohen did that," and expresses confusion over the situation.
Once at a local police station, body camera footage captures Huger's interactions with officers. She appears to clash with an officer and claims to be "Thomas Jefferson’s concubine."
The charges against her included DUI, negligent driving, failure to control speed to prevent a collision, and failure to notify authorities of an address change, according to Fox 5 DC.
Huger's attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment in the jury’s verdict yet respected their decision. He stated to People, "We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf." Bolden thanked supporters for their prayers during this time.
In Potomac, Maryland, Huger was involved in a car incident where she drove her 2017 Maserati aggressively, hitting a crosswalk sign and a parking sign. Although not arrested, she received several citations.
During the trial, police footage displayed an officer referring to her as "hammered," indicating her impaired state. Witnesses, including an EMT, stated that Huger refused treatment and exhibited swaying behavior while trying to board an ambulance.
Huger attributed emotional distress to the incident. In a statement to TMZ in March, she expressed gratitude for supporting prayers and mentioned her healing journey. She reflected on her mother's passing and the impact of grief as Mother's Day approached, which intensified her emotions.
Huger described her experience on the way home from dinner. She swerved to avoid a potential head-on collision, hitting both a divider and a tree. Despite being hurt and bruised, she felt thankful to be alive. Huger mentioned that one citation received was unrelated to the crash, and she highlighted the unexpected behavior of the vehicle that nearly collided with her.
She stressed the importance of understanding one's emotional state while driving. Huger also advocated for seatbelt use, noting, "My mother may be my Guardian Angel, but the seatbelt saved my life."
Her sentencing date is set for January 29, 2025.
