Karla Sofia Gascón Issues Apology Following Controversy
Karla Sofía Gascón has issued another apology. The star of "Emilia Pérez" took to Instagram on February 6 to address disturbing tweets that resurfaced. These posts have overshadowed the film’s Oscar campaign, despite Gascón's nomination for Best Actress.
Initially, Gascón, 52, apologized through a Netflix statement regarding the tweets. However, she later stated that some comments attributed to her were out of context or made up.
In light of the scandal, "Emilia Pérez" director Jacques Audiard offered his critique. In an interview with Deadline on February 5, he said Gascón was engaging in a "self-destructive approach." He questioned, "Why is she harming herself?"
Audiard expressed concern over how Gascón’s actions were affecting those close to her. He mentioned co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, both involved in the movie. "I’m thinking of how she’s hurting the crew who worked hard. I just don’t understand why she continues to harm us," he stated.
In response to Audiard's remarks, Gascón emphasized her desire for the film’s appreciation. On Instagram, she stated, "I understand Jacques' interview. For the film, for Jacques, the cast, and crew, I chose to remain silent, hoping the film is seen as a beautiful ode to love and difference." She also expressed sorrow to anyone who felt hurt, sharing a photo from "Emilia Pérez"'s Cannes premiere.
"Emilia Pérez" is nominated for 13 Oscars this year, including Best Actress for Gascón. Saldaña, campaigning for Best Supporting Actress, voiced her sadness over the situation. "Time and again, that’s the sentiment I’ve felt since everything happened," she shared with Variety on February 5.
In her remarks, Saldaña acknowledged her disappointment regarding the situation. "I can’t speak for other people’s actions. My experience is my own, and never did I think we would be here," she added.
Earlier, SSP wrote that Angelina Jolie said her kids are not interested in acting.
