Kate Beckinsale Shares Experiences of Mistreatment in Hollywood
Kate Beckinsale openly discussed her difficult experiences in Hollywood, including demands following personal trauma. This reflection came after Blake Lively’s recent legal complaint against her "It Ends With Us" co-star Justin Baldoni.
In a December 30 Instagram video, Beckinsale highlighted how the industry reacts to women voicing valid complaints. She emphasized that a system fires up when a woman addresses issues that she finds offensive or harmful.
Allegations of Mistreatment
The actress shared troubling incidents, recalling that she was compelled by a publicist to participate in a photo shoot a day after experiencing a miscarriage. "I said, 'I can't, I'm bleeding. I don't want to change my clothes in front of strangers and do a photo shoot. I'm bleeding out a miscarriage.’" Despite her pleas, the publicist insisted she had to proceed or risk legal action.
Furthermore, Beckinsale recounted being insulted after raising concerns about a male co-star who was consistently intoxicated on set. "I had said I'm finding it very difficult," she explained, noting how this behavior affected her time with her daughter, Lily. She expressed her frustration, saying, "I'm waiting six hours a day for him to learn his lines."
A Call for Change
Reflecting on her experiences, Beckinsale affirmed the ongoing struggle many women face in the industry. "I’ve got about 47 million stories similar to this," she remarked. "If you mention it, you’re f--ked. You’re supposed to absorb it and just let it be." This silence, she believes, has persisted for too long.
Though she does not know Lively or Baldoni personally, Beckinsale appreciated Lively's efforts to confront prevalent issues. She acknowledged that Lively's complaint underscores the fact that these problems are not relics of the past.
Summary of Allegations Against Baldoni
Lively's filing indicated severe accusations against Baldoni. She claimed he showed her inappropriate videos and discussed personal issues, including a supposed "pornography addiction" and attempts to malign her reputation. Baldoni's legal representation dismissed these claims as "false" and "outrageous."
The industry faces critical conversations initiating from these discussions. Beckinsale’s courage to share will encourage a broader examination of how women’s voices are often stifled and disrespected.
