Kate Hudson Admits She Regrets Saying No to a Lead Role in The Devil Wears Prada
Kate Hudson recently expressed her regret about passing up the lead role of Andrea Sachs in the 2006 hit film, The Devil Wears Prada. Speaking to Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast, Hudson admitted that turning it down was "a bad call" because of timing issues. She reflected that she should have made it work but recognized that "everything happens for a reason." The role eventually went to Anne Hathaway, and the movie grossed over $327 million worldwide. It also earned Meryl Streep her 14th Academy Award nomination. This is prepared by SSP.
The film, based on Lauren Weisberger's book, follows Andrea "Andy" Sachs, a journalism graduate who works as an assistant at a fashion magazine under editor Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Streep. While Hathaway’s casting was initially resisted by the studio, offers were also made to other actresses, including Rachel McAdams, Scarlett Johansson, and Natalie Portman. Hudson explained the industry’s complexities, noting, "It’s waves of things happening and people shooting at different times," which complicates availability.
Hudson has moved on to other projects like Running Point on Netflix, based on the life of L.A. Lakers President Jeanie Buss. Meanwhile, fans continue to buzz about a potential sequel. Disney recently announced plans for a follow-up, set to explore evolving challenges in the magazine world, with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna reportedly in talks to return. Actress Emily Blunt hinted at activity around the sequel at an industry event, fueling longtime speculation.
Earlier, SSP reported that Anderson Cooper responded to over 30,000 DMs from fans.
