Keith Urban Headlining New Touring Music Competition Show "The Road"
Keith Urban will lead a new music competition series titled "The Road." Reported on CBS Mornings on February 25, this series features the four-time Grammy winner as the headliner. The program comes from executive producers Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, Lee Metzger, and David Glasser.
"The Road" is set to premiere on CBS in fall 2025. Urban and Shelton will search for the next big musician throughout the United States. This show will showcase emerging artists performing as Urban's opening act at various music venues in states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
Urban reflects on his past by sharing that he often played in rundown pubs for very few people. "I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to determine if they are true musicians," he stated. He emphasized the challenges of touring, highlighting that some lessons in the music industry cannot be taught, such as creating set lists and engaging the crowd.
His latest album, "High," will feature songs during the performances, including the single "Straight Line." As part of the show, audience members will also help decide which artists progress to subsequent cities on the tour.
The Road tour kicks off on March 2 with a special showcase at Tannahill’s Tavern & Music Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. It will conclude on April 2 at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Key stops during the tour include performances at The Factory in Dallas on March 5, Oklahoma Ranch on March 9, Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa on March 12, Minglewood Hall in Memphis on March 24, and Marathon Music Works in Nashville on March 28. Ticket availability is limited and free, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.
In November 2024, CBS announced the full series order for "The Road," with Shelton and Sheridan involved as executive producers. Shelton expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Taylor. He stated, "I understand what it's like to pursue a music dream and live life on tour. I’m eager to find new talent and provide a platform for them."
Sheridan added, "We are witnessing a revolution in country music. Partnering with Blake for the next generation of artists is a thrilling endeavor. It’s about going out, engaging the crowd, and proving oneself."
