King Charles III and Queen Camilla Set to Travel to Italy for Their 20th Anniversary
Buckingham Palace has confirmed King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s state visit to the Holy See and Italy. The couple plans to visit Rome and Ravenna, intending to meet Pope Francis to commemorate the 2025 Jubilee Year. Further details will be announced closer to the visit dates.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary in Italy. On February 3, The Sun reported that the royal couple will embark on their first state visit of the year to Rome. This trip is scheduled for April 9—exactly two decades since their wedding. Engagements will include a potential audience with Pope Francis at Vatican City.
Amid their royal duties, the couple will have personal time to celebrate their milestone. Charles is expected to continue receiving treatment for his cancer diagnosis, revealed in February 2024.
Details of the trip remain undisclosed. This forthcoming tour follows their October 2024 journey to Australia and Samoa. Though medically cleared to travel while undergoing treatment, Charles postponed the New Zealand leg due to doctor’s recommendations. He expressed regret about missing the visit to New Zealand while meeting with the New Zealand Black Ferns in September 2024. "I hope there’ll be another excuse [to come] before it’s not too long," he remarked.
Charles and Camilla’s tour of Australia and Samoa was successful despite health considerations. His itinerary included limited engagements to prioritize his well-being. After returning to the U.K., Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles would continue regular overseas trips amid his ongoing battle with cancer.
A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace stated, "We’re now working on a pretty normal-looking full overseas tour program for next year," highlighting optimism regarding Charles’s health. The spokesperson noted that Charles genuinely enjoyed the tour. Experiencing time abroad lifted his spirits, supporting his recovery. Despite the tour demands, it proved to be "the perfect tonic" for him.
As the year concluded, Charles reflected on his health challenges during his Christmas Day address. "From a personal point of view, I offer special, heartfelt thanks to the selfless doctors and nurses who, this year, have supported me and other family members," he shared in December 2024. "I am deeply grateful to all those who have offered their kind words of sympathy and encouragement."
