King Charles III Congratulates Beyoncé on Her Grammy Win
King Charles III has expressed admiration for Beyoncé, affectionately known as Queen Bey. In a special radio show on March 10, he celebrated her recent Grammy win.
The British monarch, aged 76, named Beyoncé’s hit song "Crazy In Love" as one of his personal favorites during his Apple Music 1 radio special, 'The King’s Music Room'. He congratulated Beyoncé for winning her first Album of the Year award at last month's Grammy Awards.
Beyoncé received the award for her country album, 'Cowboy Carter', after previously being nominated four times. Notably, she lost for her acclaimed album 'Lemonade'.
While introducing Crazy In Love," King Charles called Beyoncé, 43, an artist "so exceptional that I could not resist including her music." He recounted, "She performed this song at the then-Prince’s Trust Fashion Rocks concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2003. I wanted to capture an iconic musical moment from many events supportive of my Trust’s work."
As he started playing the track, he praised the "incomparable" artist and congratulated her on her Grammy achievement. At the end of the show, he honored Diana Ross, a significant inspiration for Beyoncé. He played Ross’ 1980 classic, "Upside Down," stating, "This last song is a personal favorite. It was impossible not to dance when it played."
During the Apple Music special, Charles featured various artists, including Bob Marley & The Wailers, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and Michael Bublé. He shared memories associated with the music, saying, "Bob Marley would have been 80 this year." He reminisced about meeting Marley at an event and noted his "marvelous, infectious energy and sincere concern for his community."
Charles curated this personal playlist to celebrate Commonwealth Day on March 10.
