Kristen Doute Shares Details of 'Romantic' Proposal During Fishing Trip
Kristen Doute recently discussed her engagement to Luke Broderick on Tori Spelling's podcast, misSpelling, revealing intimate details from the trip in Hawaii. The reality star, 42, described being unaware of the proposal plan unfolding around her. She also recounted a brief encounter with her engagement ring box prior to Doute’s unforgettable moment, PEOPLE reported.
The proposal occurred in September while the couple filmed the upcoming season of "The Valley." Despite only catching "a tiny clip" of the event, Doute reflected on her initial surprise at Broderick’s subtle way of setting the stage. "The first thing I say is, ‘Oh, f---,’" she recalled, explaining her response was not as declare as those expected in romantic settings.
On that day, Doute had no intentions of glamorizing for a fishing trip. "I’m not even putting makeup on," she reflected, humorously depicting her mindset. She associated fishing with messy setups, contrasting sharply with her fiancé's passion for it. Yet, the anticipation for the surprise overshadowed her initial thoughts.
While reminiscing, Doute noticed a minor detail that could have unveiled Broderick’s plan but didn't. Communicating these thoughts with Spelling, she laughed about sifting through bags at times, all while unaware that their engagement ring was cleverly tucked away.
Doute indicated her astonishment at not recognizing signs—everyone calls her "detective Doute." In one instance, Broderick had the ring in his pocket while she checked for family photos. Doute mentioned, "If I would have seen a box labeled Kyle Chan… I would have known."
Their journey together began as Broderick served as a groomsman at a wedding mere weeks after Doute's breakup with ex Alex Menache in June 2022. During an episode of their podcast "Balancing Act," they shared their romance blossomed beyond that first meeting.
In December, after announcing they were expecting their first baby, they also disclosed it was a girl. Doute expressed how excited they were to start this "next chapter" and "soon welcome our baby girl next summer."
Reflecting on their engagement, Doute shared images from the Maui moment on Instagram in September. Their post, with a heartfelt caption, encapsulated the bond and joy of their love story, emphasizing gratitude to the ring designer for the beautiful piece.
