Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and Chappell Roan Star in Holiday Carpool Karaoke Special
Apple TV+ and Apple Music premiered 'A Very Carpool Karaoke Christmas' on December 15. This holiday special, an hour-long episode, marked the show's return after 18 months.
During the episode, regular host James Corden handed over driving duties to Zane Lowe. Corden, age 46, began with a phone call to Lowe, age 51. He requested Lowe to drive his three friends and humorously asked for a favor, stating, "Zane, my guy. Listen, I need a favor, okay? I've got three friends that just need a ride." Lowe responded with surprise as Corden mentioned they were coming from Tokyo, Missouri, and Los Angeles.
Lowe enthusiastically entered the decorated SUV, adorned with garlands and red ribbons. Soon, he was joined by Lady Gaga as they began singing "Deck The Halls." The holiday spirit continued with appearances from Chappell Roan and Dua Lipa. Together, they sang festive classics like "Sleigh Ride" by The Ronettes and Wham’s "Last Christmas." The trio also performed their hit songs. Lady Gaga sang "Disease," Dua Lipa performed "New Rules," and Roan contributed "Pink Pony Club."
In an unexpected moment, Lowe took center stage as he played electric guitar for a new version of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" alongside Lady Gaga's band. This rendition will be released as an independent audio track. Gaga also delighted with her holiday single "Christmas Tree," prompting surprise from Lowe at the suggestive lyrics such as, "underneath the mistletoe, everyone knows we will take off our clothes."
An exciting surprise unfolded when AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson joined the ride. Gaga shared her connection to the legendary band, revealing she was an extra in their video for "Stiff Upper Lip" at age 17.
Chappell Roan's segment was filled with family moments. Her parents, Kara and Dwight Amstutz, joined her, and she introduced a chicken named after Lady Gaga from her family farm in Springfield, Missouri. Roan’s parents seized this moment to express pride in her achievements. Kara noted, "I love it when you can just see the people respond to [her] songs so much."
The biggest surprise came from Dua Lipa. She took Lowe Christmas shopping in downtown Tokyo, singing Whitney Houston’s classic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."
