Lady Gaga's Mayhem Album: Insights from Michael Polansky
Lady Gaga revealed that her fiancé, Michael Polansky, significantly influenced her creative choices for her album 'Mayhem'. During an interview with The New York Times on March 8, she mentioned that Polansky deterred her from turning 'Mayhem' into a "grunge" album.
According to Gaga, Polansky was present in the studio daily. He played a key role in overseeing the album's production and in creatively shaping its sound. Gaga, 38, expressed appreciation for Polansky's partnership, saying, "There's nobody that’s going to call me on it better than he is."
During the discussion, Gaga noted that she nearly transformed the entire album into a grunge project. She noted, "There’s plenty of grunge on 'Mayhem'". This inspiration came after working on her track "Perfect Celebrity".
Gaga recalled her thought process: "I was like, 'Oh, everything should be this,'" but Polansky offered a different perspective. He pointed out that her music has diversity, encouraging her not to box herself into one sound.
She found his advice insightful. "I was happy it happened, as I sometimes run with my crazy ideas and later regret them," Gaga reflected.
Additionally, Polansky played a crucial role in ensuring a fan-favorite made it onto the album. Gaga appeared on the podcast 'Las Culturistas', where she remarked that "How Bad Do U Want Me" almost didn't make the album.
"Oh my God, I almost didn’t put that on the album," she declared about the "total hyper-pop" track. She initially doubted including it, but Michael insisted it was a must-have for her fans.
Gaga shared her concerns regarding the potential backlash from fans over a "really super pop" song. She compared her uncertainty with releasing "Just Dance" back in 2008, admitting she was relieved she ignored her doubts then.
