Laura Prepon Claims Ben Foster Has History of Alcohol Abuse Amid Custody Battle
As Laura Prepon and Ben Foster continue their custody dispute, Prepon accuses her estranged husband of alcohol abuse. Documents acquired by Us Weekly reveal that Prepon filed a response to Foster’s request for a temporary custody arrangement.
In her court filing, Prepon, 44, requested that Foster refrain from drinking alcohol during his parenting time with their two children and within the 12 hours prior. She also suggested considering supervision during his visitation. The couple shares a five-year-old daughter, Ella, and a son born in 2020.
Prepon’s filing included a request for holiday arrangements. She aimed to have their children spend Christmas morning with her and visit Foster later that day. She also mentioned their living arrangements after relocating from New York to Tennessee in 2022.
The motion indicated that Prepon has been living apart from Foster for the past four months, mainly due to his filming commitments. She stated that during a summer visit, he supposedly prioritized personal activities over family time.
Furthermore, Prepon accused Foster of failing to return home after completing a film project in August. She highlighted his absence, noting that he had not seen the children in weeks, yet attended the Venice Film Festival. While there, he was seen on the red carpet without his wedding ring.
Despite Foster's frequent absences, Prepon maintains a stable home environment for their children, ensuring they keep a regular routine. Her legal counsel expressed concerns about their children staying at Foster’s new home due to his alleged alcohol problems.
Prepon recounted an incident after their daughter's birth in 2017, where Foster reportedly became so intoxicated that he locked himself out of their New York apartment. She found him asleep on the doorstep.
Additionally, she stated that Foster frequently carries a cup or thermos to drink during the daytime. Documents claimed evidence of these drinks, suggesting they contained whiskey alongside coffee.
Foster’s attorney dismissed Prepon's claims as fabrication in a statement to In Touch.
Earlier this month, Foster reportedly stated he had difficulties negotiating custody with Prepon. His attorney revealed that efforts to develop a parenting plan had been unsuccessful.
In September, Foster filed for divorce after six years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences." He listed their separation date as one year earlier. Foster and Prepon began dating in 2016 and married a year later.
Discussing her experiences balancing motherhood and her career, Prepon acknowledged the challenges. She commented on the tough nature of being away from her children due to work commitments and the guilt that often ensues.
