Liam Payne’s Friend and Two Others No Longer Face Manslaughter Charges
Liam Payne's friend, Roger Nores, along with two hotel workers, will not face manslaughter charges related to his death. This decision comes from Argentina's Court of Appeals, which issued a ruling on February 19, as reported by Rolling Stone and later confirmed by the BBC on February 20.
Nores expressed relief over the ruling, stating, "Glad this is finally over. I'm happy I'm now going to be able to travel to the U.K. and say goodbye to my friend." The court concluded that Nores did not assist Payne in "obtaining and consuming alcohol" and could not have prevented the tragedy that unfolded in October.
Nores has consistently proclaimed his innocence in the wake of the incident. In November 2024, he shared with the Daily Mail, "I never abandoned Liam. I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened. There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could have never imagined something like this would happen."
Payne tragically fell from a third-floor hotel balcony at the CasaSur Palermo in Buenos Aires on October 16, 2024.
Hotel Workers Cleared of Charges
The judges also exonerated Esteban Grassi, a receptionist, and Gilda Martin, a manager at the hotel. They determined there was insufficient evidence to claim that they acted in a "thoughtless, reckless, or merely negligent" manner days before Payne's death.
In contrast, two men, Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Nahuel Paiz, who are accused of supplying drugs to Payne, are still in custody pending trial. In December 2024, Paiz faced charges for allegedly providing drugs to Payne. Confirmed reports from Us Weekly in January 2025 indicated that he was arrested and could potentially receive a prison sentence of four to 15 years.
Paiz claimed he and Payne used drugs together but denied ever providing drugs or taking any money from him, stating in an interview with Telefe Noticias.
Pereyra, connected to CasaSur as well, allegedly supplied drugs prior to Payne's untimely death. Reports highlighted Pereyra’s arrest in January 2025, just days after Paiz was detained.
Details of Payne's Cause of Death
Payne's official cause of death was recorded as "multiple traumas," with specific injuries noted, such as hemorrhages in his chest, skull, and abdomen. A partial autopsy further revealed the presence of "pink cocaine," a blend of methamphetamine, ketamine, and MDMA, along with cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack at the time of his death. His interment took place in Amersham, England, in November.
