Liam Payne’s Psychiatrist Recommended Higher Care Weeks Before His Tragic Death
Reports indicate that Liam Payne‘s former psychiatrist advised him to seek a "higher level of care" than she could provide.
In a letter submitted to a court in Argentina, the psychiatrist informed Payne in September — just weeks before his death — that she would cease treatment after significant evaluation, as reported by TMZ on December 30. She encouraged the One Direction artist to maintain therapy sessions to effectively "process [his] depression and trauma." Furthermore, she recommended he consult a primary care doctor and use medications strictly as prescribed, avoiding heavy drinking. Her note included a list of relevant doctors and rehabilitation centers.
"Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you the very best in your continued journey toward mental health and well-being," she noted in the letter, according to TMZ.
On October 16, Payne was found deceased after a fall from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. A preliminary autopsy indicated "multiple traumas" as the cause of death, with hemorrhages in the chest, skull, and abdomen. Multiple substances were reportedly detected in his system, but authorities did not classify the incident as a suicide.
On December 29, 2024, a local news outlet in Argentina reported five individuals faced charges related to Payne's death at the age of 31. Among those charged is his friend, Roger Nores. Others facing manslaughter charges include Esteban Grassi, a hotel receptionist, and Gilda Martin, the hotel's head of security. Braian Paiz, a waiter, and Ezequiel Pereyra, another CasaSur employee, were accused of allegedly supplying drugs to Payne prior to his fatal fall, as stated in the report. All five individuals have been summoned to court.
Nores previously commented on his alleged involvement in Payne's demise, insisting to the Daily Mail in November that he "never abandoned" the musician. "There were over 15 people at the hotel's lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could have never imagined something like this would happen. I’m really heartbroken over this tragedy and have been missing my friend every day," he expressed.
Recently, Nores filed a complaint alleging the hotel failed to ensure Payne's safety during his stay. "A world-famous person was staying with obvious signs of ... a crisis from drug use, and they did not even attempt to provide a 24-hour doctor," he stated in documents obtained by TMZ.
He also claimed that the hotel management was aware of Payne's intoxication, arguing the need for a doctor to be present from the moment the singer checked in. In his view, CasaSur employees neglected to assist Payne during his final hours.
In a later court filing picked up by Rolling Stone, Nores elaborated on Payne’s struggles with drugs. "I was a friend who cared deeply for him, who helped selflessly in every possible way, even spending my own money to assist him, and it was still insufficient," he claimed. "I do not believe I deserve the accusations being made against me."
