Mariah Carey Breaks Her Own Record, Celebrating Historic Hot 100 Run of 'All I Want for Christmas'

On December 23, Billboard announced that Mariah Carey’s holiday classic achieved a remarkable milestone. The singer, now 55, shared a post featuring herself after learning that "All I Want for Christmas Is You" topped the Hot 100 chart for a record-breaking 17th total week.

"This is amazing!!!! Will never ever ever ever take this for granted," Carey wrote on her Instagram Stories. She added a cheerful, "Merry early Christmas!!!!" to her message.

In the celebratory image, Carey dazzles in a fitted red gown, surrounded by beautifully wrapped gifts under festive Christmas trees. Billboard revealed in their post caption that Carey also held a spot in the chart of No. 1 songs with a different 1990s hit. This new record surpassed the 16-week reign of "One Sweet Day" alongside Boyz II Men, which took the No. 1 spot in 1995-96.

Additionally, Billboard shared that "All I Want for Christmas Is You," leading the Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks this season, represents the third-longest duration at No. 1 in the chart's 66-year history. The iconic track debuted in 1994 on Carey's "Merry Christmas" album.

Billboard noted that the song first climbed into the top 10 of the Hot 100 in December 2017. It entered the top five the following year, and in 2019, it claimed the top position for three weeks during the holiday season. The track has continued its popularity, spending two weeks atop the chart in 2020, three weeks in 2021, and four weeks in 2022.

Most recently, in 2023, it reigned supreme for two weeks. This achievement follows Carey’s star-studded Christmas Time tour, concluding on December 17. Shortly before, it was revealed that "All I Want for Christmas Is You" was the first holiday song to reach 2 billion streams on Spotify.

"This is beyond incredible. I’m honored to have ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ be the first holiday track on Spotify to reach 2 billion streams! I’m so grateful to all Spotify listeners worldwide who’ve made the song part of their holiday tradition year after year," Carey said in a statement to PEOPLE on December 13.
