Matt Lucas Apologizes to Millie Bobby Brown for Comments on "Mommy Makeover"

After Millie Bobby Brown criticized Matt Lucas for labeling her with a "mommy makeover," the comedian issued a heartfelt apology. He sought to clarify his comments regarding the Stranger Things star.

Matt Lucas is addressing the situation directly. Following Millie’s criticism, he expressed regret for any hurt his remarks caused, providing context for his statement.

"Dear Millie," he wrote on Instagram on March 4, "I just saw your post and felt it necessary to respond."

The 50-year-old explained that his "mommy makeover" reference stemmed from a character he portrayed on the sketch show Little Britain. This show aired from 2003 to 2006.

He continued, "Nearly 25 years ago, I co-wrote and starred in the show, featuring a character named Vicky Pollard. She had blonde hair and wore a pink top, and you looked similar in the photo I shared." He wanted to highlight the comparison by referencing one of her iconic phrases.

Matt expressed that he believed Millie "looked terrific" in the accompanying paparazzi shot and felt "mortified" upon learning that the press claimed he had "slammed" her with his comment. "Firstly, that's not my style. Secondly, I think you're brilliant."

"I wouldn’t have posted if I thought it would upset you," he added, "but I now realize it has, and I apologize."

Matt was among the writers Millie addressed in a message criticizing the media for "bullying" her regarding suggestions that she's "aging so badly."

"This is not journalism; it's bullying," she said in an Instagram video posted on March 3. "It’s disturbing that adult writers are dissecting my face, body, and personal choices."

The 21-year-old emphasized that critics often tear women down for attention, stating, "We preach support for young women, yet it's easier to belittle them for clicks. Some find it hard to accept a girl becoming a woman on her own terms."

Millie, who gained fame at 11 for her role as Eleven in Stranger Things, noted her swift rise to stardom contributes to her unfair treatment in the public eye.

"I have grown up in front of the world," she said. "Yet, people seem unable to grow alongside me. They expect me to remain as I appeared in season one of Stranger Things. Because I don’t, I become a target."

Despite the unwarranted criticism of her appearance, Millie asserted that it wouldn't dictate her life choices.

"I refuse to diminish myself to meet unrealistic expectations from those uncomfortable with my growth," she affirmed. "I will not be shamed for how I look, dress, or present myself."
