Matthew Gaudreau's Wife Madeline Welcomes Their First Baby Four Months After His Passing

Madeline Gaudreau, the widow of late hockey player Matthew Gaudreau, has welcomed their first child four months after her husband died in a tragic motorcycle accident. Matthew was the brother of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau.

Madeline announced on December 29 that their son, named "Tripp Matthew," had been born. She shared this joyful news on Instagram, posting a touching photo of herself holding him. "Mommy & Daddy’s world," she wrote.

Prior to this, Madeline announced her pregnancy on social media in June. This was just two months before the accident in which a Jeep struck her husband and his brother while they were biking in New Jersey. Matthew, who played in the minor leagues, had expressed great excitement about becoming a father.

At a memorial service for the brothers in September, Madeline said, "He was born to be a dad." She recalled, "The moment we found out about our son Tripp, it consumed his every day." He had been actively preparing for fatherhood by downloading apps, ordering books, and seeking advice from Johnny.

Madeline cherished Matthew’s emotions during this time. "I will never forget the tears he had in his eyes when he first heard Tripp’s heartbeat," she shared.

Madeline welcomed baby Tripp three weeks after Matthew's 30th birthday. On December 5, she posted a heartfelt birthday message on Instagram. "Happy Birthday to the best husband and father," she wrote. "From the moment I met you, I knew you were the one."

She continued, "As I celebrate you today (and every day), I am more in love with you and honored to be your wife."

In early October, Madeline celebrated with a baby shower where she shared images of blue balloons, including one that read "Baby Tripp." Among the guests was Johnny's wife, Meredith Gaudreau. Meredith had revealed she was expecting her and Johnny's third child during the brothers' memorial service.

The families gathered in October for a poignant tribute at the season opening game of the Columbus Blue Jackets. A banner with Johnny's name and jersey number, 13, was displayed. His daughter, Noa, 2, was seen pointing at the banner in the Nationwide Arena.

After the match, Meredith posted on Instagram, thanking the Columbus Blue Jackets family for a beautiful evening. "NWA was our second home as a family, a place where I still feel close to John," she said. "I could see in Noa's eyes that she can feel it too."
