Mckenna Grace Excited for 'Scream 7' Role
Scream fans are buzzing about the casting of Mckenna Grace, known for her role in Ghostbusters, in the franchise's upcoming film, Scream 7. Grace, just 18 years old, expressed her excitement during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly at the iHeartRadio’s Z100 Jingle Ball in New York City on December 13. She shared her enthusiasm saying, "I’m so jazzed. It’s actually crazy. I have a tote bag featuring Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard that I take with me everywhere."
Furthermore, she mentioned that the original Scream cast included David Arquette, Neve Campbell, and Courteney Cox. Campbell and Cox will reprise their roles in the new film, slated for release in February 2026. Despite being born a decade after the original film's 1996 debut, Grace feels deeply connected to the original cast.
Grace recounted a fond memory from her fan experiences: "I work comic cons, and I snuck in one time to one of the photo opps to take a picture with the original Scream cast." Her excitement is palpable as she describes holding back news from her friends—it's been "the hardest secret to keep."
Her casting comes amidst recent upheavals in the franchise. In November 2023, following her outspoken support for Palestine, Melissa Barrera, a lead in Scream (2022) and Scream 6 (2023), was removed from the project. Alongside her exit, Jenna Ortega also departed due to scheduling issues. However, Neve Campbell confirmed her return as Sidney Prescott after skipping Scream VI. This fall, Mason Gooding and Courteney Cox joined Campbell in affirming their participation in Scream 7.
Stepping into a beloved franchise like Scream can be daunting. However, Grace has horror credentials that serve her well. Her previous roles in films such as Amityville: The Awakening, Malignant, and the Annabelle series provide a solid foundation for her current role. Grace stated, "[Horror] is really where my heart lives. I love scary movies. It’s what I grew up on with my dad."
Creepy films have always captured Grace’s imagination, as she narrated, "I was such a weird kid growing up. All of my favorite movies were scary movies. Tim Burton films were my favorite animated ones, so I naturally gravitated to the creepy stuff, especially Halloween."
She finds it surreal to start working on sequels to the movies that shaped her childhood. When asked about the plot details of Scream 7, Grace playfully kept it hush-hush: "All I can say is I’m really excited."
