Meghan Markle Reflects on Her Time in Suits Amid Resurgence
Meghan Markle reminisces about her role in the legal drama Suits. The Duchess of Sussex, now 43, left the USA Network series in 2017 before marrying Prince Harry. Although her character, Rachel Zane, completed her storyline with a wedding in the seventh season, the show continued for two more seasons. Its recent addition to Netflix in 2023 has introduced 'Suits' to a new audience.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Meghan expressed her delight at the show's revival. "I'm not surprised that people are rediscovering Suits, because it was so well written and so well produced," she stated. Meghan also revealed a keepsake from her time on the show: "I still have the pencil skirt from the first episode! That’s the one thing I kept."
The spinoff series Suits L.A., located in Meghan's hometown, is now available on Peacock. She noted, "I love that it gets a new breath of fresh air."
During her time filming in Toronto, Meghan connected with Prince Harry, now 40. After their first meetings in London in 2016, they maintained a long-distance relationship, traveling frequently to see each other without exceeding two weeks apart.
In their engagement interview in November 2017, Meghan discussed leaving Suits to embrace her royal duties. "I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter, right?" she said. She acknowledged her seven years on the show, stating, "I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team."
Although Meghan has ruled out returning to acting, Suits creator Aaron Korsh remains open to the idea. He shared with PEOPLE, "We have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves. To me, that’s a little... My brain blows up at the thought of that."
Korsh added, "If Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back." He also confirmed, "Of course. Always. But realistically, it would be too much of an explosion of the fourth wall to do that."
