Meghan Trainor, known for her self-love anthems like "All About That Bass," appreciates working alongside Kim Petras. The two artists collaborated in 2023 on a remix of Trainor's hit song "Made You Look," which features a new verse from Petras. Trainor praises Petras for her incredible vocal range and talent. "It was a dream" for Trainor to work with Petras, who shares a deep passion for songwriting, PEOPLE reported.
Trainor has openly addressed her battles with panic disorder. She employs antidepressants, therapy, and fitness as part of her coping strategy. One of her musical highlights is Petras' "Slut Pop" EP from 2022. "That’s the only thing. I’m like, ‘This is it. This is going to get me going,’" she states. Music plays a vital role in her mental wellness, as it can instantly uplift her mood on challenging days.
Meghan Trainor emphasizes the significance of physical fitness for her mental health. "It really helps my mental health when I'm working out and exercising and taking care of me," she explains. Alongside fitness, she makes an effort to prioritize sleep. Trainor connects lack of rest to increased irritability, coining the term "slangry" for sleep-induced anger.
Another strong support in her life is her husband, Daryl Sabara. "He is my rock," says Trainor, who enjoys a strong communication bond with him. They share two sons, Riley and Barry, which adds joy and purpose to their lives.
The release of Kim Petras' "Slut Pop" became a defining moment for her LGBTQ+ fanbase, yielding a mixture of praise and criticism. In discussing the project, Petras explained, "I want people to find it offensive and struggle with it," remarking on her experiences as a transgender artist navigating societal boundaries. She aims to use her music to challenge perceptions and champion sexuality in a fun, empowering manner.
Petras also elaborated on the significant hurdles faced by those in the trans community, highlighting how she recognizes the struggles many endure. "I think it’s empowering," she asserts, regarding the creation of bold, sex-positive music, thus affirming her role as an artist fueled by purpose and resilience.
