Nicole Kidman Comments on ‘Babygirl’ Being Called Disturbing
Nicole Kidman reacted strongly to a review of her upcoming movie "Babygirl." She expressed surprise but also understanding regarding how viewers perceive the film. "I think it’s very releasing, this film. I hope it is," Kidman noted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I’ve had some people say it’s the most disturbing film they’ve ever seen, which I’m like, ‘Oh no, I’m so sorry.’"
The film, set for release on December 25, features Kidman as Romy, a CEO who engages in an illicit affair with her intern, Samuel (played by Harris Dickinson). For Kidman, the film resonates on a profound level.
"A lot of times, women are discarded at a certain period of their career as a sexual being. So, it was really beautiful to be seen in this way," she elaborated. She felt that the character taps into a relatable struggle with identity, desires, and power. "From the minute I read it, I was like, ‘Yeah, this is a voice I haven’t seen. This is a place that I haven’t been,’" Kidman shared.
Kidman also described the filmmaking process as "raw and dangerous." She was surprised at the funding it received for its bold themes. "The sexuality of it. That it wasn’t written for a 20-year-old or even a 30-year-old," she stated.
This role, especially regarding intimate scenes, allowed Kidman to showcase a more extroverted side. "I blush, still! That’s insane," she shared about portraying challenging situations in the film. Kidman emphasized her interest in exploring complex themes while maintaining a level of personal privacy.
The chemistry between Kidman and Dickinson has attracted attention. The younger actor previously commented on their work together, explaining how they approached filming intimate scenes with the help of an intimacy coordinator. "We’d discuss comfort levels and then kind of did our own thing with it," Dickinson explained, highlighting the collaboration during these sensitive moments.
