Nina Dobrev Opens Up About Engagement to Shaun White (Exclusive)

Nina Dobrev recently shared a surprising aspect of her engagement to Shaun White. The Vampire Diaries star stated that she is often asked about their wedding date.

"How often people ask when the wedding is," Dobrev mentioned to PEOPLE.

It has been roughly five months since Dobrev, 36, and White, 38, announced their engagement in late October. Her friends and family are excited for their wedding day. Dobrev highlighted that White's mother actively supports their union.

"Literally the day we announced it, his mom asked, ‘When's the wedding?’" recounts Dobrev. She spoke to PEOPLE while promoting her work with SC Johnson for the Join Zuzu campaign, which raises awareness about plastic waste and the importance of recycling.

"We responded, ‘Literally, it just happened. We have no idea,’" she added.

Their engagement took place in New York City. White proposed under an arch of white roses at the Golden Swan restaurant, presenting a stunning 5-carat diamond ring. Dobrev mentioned the proposal in Vogue, revealing her shock, saying, "I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him."

A close source shared that White had discussed the proposal with his close circle months prior. Their friends were aware and supportive, expressing excitement about the engagement. "After the proposal, they were calling and texting friends saying, 'It can't get better than this' while glowing with happiness," the insider stated.

The source added that Dobrev and White plan a large celebration for their wedding, anticipating it will be "a blowout party." According to the source, "They are the perfect fit together — fun and adventurous, but also grounding for each other."

Dobrev and White began dating in 2019, moving in together at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. They shared their relationship publicly on Instagram in May 2020 with cute photos of Dobrev giving White a quarantine haircut.

"We're just enjoying our time together right now. No pressure," White expressed to PEOPLE in April 2023 at Oasis Celsius Vibe House. He mentioned, "I told her, 'Look, after the Olympics, I finally got my freedom to do whatever. Let’s just have fun and be together and support each other.'"
