One Tree Hill's Bethany Joy Lenz Discusses Fallout with Hilarie Burton
Bethany Joy Lenz from One Tree Hill recently disclosed the rift with her former co-star Hilarie Burton Morgan, attributing it to "bizarre misunderstandings." Speculation regarding their fallout emerged earlier this year when observant fans noted that they unfollowed each other on Instagram. Lenz addressed the issue on the October 16th episode of Call Her Daddy, emphasizing her affection for Burton despite the misunderstandings. Additionally, PEOPLE has reached out for Burton's comment.
The rumor mill first picked it up in March as fans noticed the actresses no longer followed each other on social media. Some internet investigators proposed that tension sparked when the cover of Lenz's memoir, "Dinner for Vampires", resembled Burton's 2023 memoir "Grimoire Girl." In February, Burton hinted at this resemblance on Instagram by posting a meme criticizing imitation.
This seeming tension deepened when Burton announced her departure from the One Tree Hill rewatch podcast, "Drama Queens," which she co-hosted with Lenz and Sophia Bush. After season 6, Burton decided to step back, expressing uncertainty about her continued role and highlighting the need for new perspectives as the series moved into later seasons. Robert Buckley, who joined the show in season 7, is set to continue where Burton left off.
Burton mentioned feeling relieved after stepping back, no longer burdened with telling and reliving weekly stories. She expressed, "I don't have to divulge anything today." Meanwhile, the complete series of One Tree Hill is available for streaming on Max, and Lenz's "Dinner for Vampires" memoir is set for release on October 22.
