Pete Davidson Discusses Reducing His Tattoo Collection
Pete Davidson expressed a desire to keep only "two or three" of his tattoos during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He mentioned he has been removing most of his ink, stating, "I’ve been burning them off." Davidson revealed that his journey to laser removal has left him with very few tattoos left.
In sharing his experience with the process, Davidson, 31, noted the discomfort associated with it. "It’s horrible," he remarked, explaining that removing a tattoo involves burning off a layer of skin. The healing process requires six to eight weeks, during which he must avoid sunlight. He humorously added that multiple sessions drastically increase in number, making it a tough journey.
Initially, Davidson had "probably 200" tattoos, many of which he started to remove in 2021. He reflected on a "weird time" in his life when he obtained ink. "I was a sad boy," he noted, quoting fellow tattoo enthusiast Post Malone's "Always tired" phrase. In light of this, Davidson expressed a commitment to achieve a cleaner slate as he matures into adulthood.
In a previous interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Davidson mentioned he aimed to shed the tattoos to improve his acting prospects. He said that preparation for roles often entails arriving up to three hours early to conceal the tattoos. "For some reason, people in movies don’t have them that much," he added, explaining the rationale behind his decision.
He also described the challenges of the removal process, stating, "Burning them off is worse than getting them." He humorously detailed wearing goggles that restrict vision while doctors work intensely in the procedure room.
Recently, Davidson contributed his voice to the animated film "Dog Man," performing as "Petey the Cat," based on the acclaimed character by Dave Pilkey. Teasing his role, he described Petey as the villain and noted the unique blend of themes in the film that resonates with children. "Dave does an amazing thing where it’s for kids, but he slips in all this heart and darkness," he remarked.
Davidson further mentioned experimenting with different vocal techniques to create an authentic voice for Petey instead of relying on a simple impression.
