Prince Harry Says ‘Life’s Going Pretty Good’ in California with Family
Prince Harry moved to California nearly five years ago with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children. They seem to be quite happy with their life in California.
During an interview with Us Weekly at the 2025 Invictus Games on February 14, rugby star Richie McCaw shared insights from his conversation with Harry. The royal founded the Invictus Games in 2014 for injured service personnel.
Recalling their chat, McCaw mentioned, "I asked him, ‘How's it going?’ He replied, ‘Well, life’s going on pretty good.’"
He continued, "Harry said he can drop the kids off at school without any issue. We all take such moments for granted, right?" McCaw added some thoughts on the tough situation Harry faces before concluding that it’s a complex position.
Prince Harry, aged 40, and Meghan, 43, reside in Montecito, raising their two children: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. The family relocated from the U.K. in 2020 after stepping down from royal duties during the pandemic.
McCaw shared a selfie with Harry from the Invictus Games held in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada. He captioned it: "Great to be in Vancouver supporting wheelchair rugby at the Invictus Games this afternoon." The Instagram post has garnered over 12,000 likes as of February 28.
Discussing their acquaintance, McCaw shared, "We’ve rubbed shoulders with the royal family a few times. I haven’t spent much time with Harry, but it was cool to chat. I didn’t think that selfie would receive so much attention."
Before retiring in 2015, McCaw led the All Blacks, New Zealand’s national rugby team, to multiple World Cup victories. He personally visited Buckingham Palace several times to meet the late Queen Elizabeth II. Most recently, he participated in King Charles III's coronation procession in 2023:
"My grandfather was a WWII pilot in Britain and often talked about the king's significance. My ancestors immigrated from the U.K., and I wonder what they would think. It’s fascinating to stand at that procession," McCaw reflected.
During the Invictus Games, Harry shared his thoughts with Us Weekly. Reflecting on launching the event over ten years ago, he said, "I have the benefit of hindsight, but I’d change nothing — except wishing there was no need for the Invictus Games."
Harry noted that Meghan has been part of this community since the Orlando Games in 2016 and has cherished every moment. He expressed the precious memories they have created together.
Meghan joined Harry for several days at the 2025 Games before returning home to look after their children. In an Instagram post dated February 14, she wrote, "Back home taking care of our babies, and missing my Valentine as he continues at the Invictus Games, changing lives and showing the healing power of resilience through these incredible veterans and their families."
