Rachel "Raquel" Leviss is vocal about her experiences with abuse after her former fiancé, James Kennedy, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence. Leviss, 29, shared her thoughts via Instagram Stories on December 18, reflecting on her complicated feelings toward Kennedy, 32, US Weekly reported.
She stressed the message that being in an abusive relationship is often perplexing. "You believe in your significant other's potential and struggle to understand the hurt," she remarked. Leviss explained how the infrequent difficult moments might lead individuals to minimize the abuse they experience. This ambiguity can cause them to perceive the possibility of their partner changing as legitimate.
Leviss discussed her emotional turmoil over the past week, expressing feelings ranging from happiness to sadness. "I don’t want this to be brushed under the rug," she stated, emphasizing the significance of her struggle with coercive control and her journey to overcome it. She expressed gratitude for the progress she has made while shining a light on the importance of discussing abuse.
The topic of abuse remains a heavy issue, but she intended to focus on the positives ahead. Leviss acknowledged the encouragement she received from supporters, which she considers significant in her journey.
Leviss and Kennedy’s relationship lasted from 2016 to 2021, highlighted in Bravo’s "Vanderpump Rules." They announced their engagement's end during a reunion special in early 2022. Speaking more about their relationship's break, Leviss revealed that tensions arose due to familial acceptance issues, particularly after an argument with her father.
In January 2022, she explained that there wasn’t a single incident causing them to split. Conflicts culminated in recognizing the lack of alignment between Kennedy and her family, leading to challenges that further strained their relationship.
Leviss found herself involved in a cheating scandal with Tom Sandoval, ultimately seeking treatment for emotional well-being. At the treatment facility, she reflected on previous relationships, including with Kennedy.
"Only a few people know the true story of my breakup," Leviss disclosed during her podcast. She narrated hidden emotions associated with her engagement's dissolution. Concerns regarding Kennedy’s well-being restrained her from fully sharing her experiences, driving her to panic.
On December 10, police responded to a disturbance at Kennedy’s residence following a report of an altercation involving a man and a woman. Although police witnessed Kennedy as an aggressor, visible injuries were absent. Following his arrest, Kennedy issued a statement via Instagram emphasizing his commitment to personal growth, sobriety, and the importance of maturity during challenging times.
Leviss's statements about her relationship with Kennedy remain unacknowledged by him, and there has been no comment from his representatives regarding this matter.
