Reese Witherspoon Addresses Rumors of "Falling Out" with Kate Winslet
Reese Witherspoon recently clarified the speculation surrounding her friendship with actress Kate Winslet. In a conversation with PEOPLE, alongside her co-star Will Ferrell for their film You're Cordially Invited, Witherspoon referenced an embarrassing award speech she delivered, implying that it affected her relationship with a fellow actress. She humorously noted, "not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore!"
Social media discussions led many to believe that Witherspoon was hinting at Winslet, especially when they unearthed a speech she gave at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in 2007.
However, on February 1, Witherspoon took to Instagram Stories to clarify that she and Winslet have remained close friends. "Hey guys... just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W. We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet," she wrote. She firmly stated, "We are good friends and have never had any falling out."
In another post, Witherspoon emphasized, "This is completely UNTRUE...so silly!"
The speech has haunted Witherspoon since 2007. She explained that she performed what she thought was a comedic roast for a fellow actress she didn’t know well. "This friend of mine... she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and roasted her."
Reflecting on the event's elegant nature, she confessed, "I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’ I'm still embarrassed about it."
Witherspoon continued to joke about the fallout, stating that she thought it was amusing at the time, but admitted, "I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad." She concluded her adorably candid commentary: "Not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh well."
