Remi Bader Reveals Family Offered $1,000 to Lose Weight

TikTok star Remi Bader disclosed that a family member offered her $1,000 to shed 20 pounds during her childhood. This experience triggered a long battle with a binge eating disorder.

Early Struggles with Weight and Eating

Remi's journey with weight issues began when she was quite young. The popular TikToker gained recognition in 2020 for promoting body positivity and sharing fashion content. Recently, she opened up about her challenges with binge eating and her journey toward healthier habits.

In a Self interview published on March 26, the 30-year-old shared that she started restrictive diets at age 10 after the financial incentive was suggested. Soon, this newfound awareness of her weight led to a severe binge eating disorder.

"I would always do the diet and restrict cycle, which only got worse over time," Remi explained. This cycle eventually made her feel desperate, as indicated by a 2019 email she sent to her dietitian. "If you have any tips, I am getting pretty desperate… It's scaring me because I can’t seem to snap out of it."

Defining Health and Happiness

Throughout her life, Remi loved her curvy figure — until a turning point changed her perception. "I will always believe that you could be a bigger size and be healthy and happy," she noted. While she once thrived in her body, her happiness shifted, revealing a struggle with her body image and wellbeing.

After years of consultation with therapists and trying multiple weight loss drugs, Remi opted for a surgical procedure in December 2023 aimed at alleviating her eating disorder.

The Journey Through Surgery and Recovery

Remi shared her surgery experience during an episode of Khloe in Wonderland.

She described her recovery journey, saying, "I was in bed for like a month, if I even turned a little I would scream in pain." Complications included a constant period and warnings from her doctor about becoming infertile at 28. She realized her health declined, with concerns over her heart and cholesterol levels.

Having exhausted other options, she chose the single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S). While the recovery posed significant challenges, leading to depression and hair loss, Remi noted substantial improvements in her health and stands firm in her decision.

"I will never regret having my time to heal," she expressed, "and I’m still healing and figuring it out."
