Rod Stewart Announces End of Large-Scale World Tours
Rod Stewart has announced an important shift in his touring career. On November 20, the 79-year-old rocker revealed on Instagram that he will no longer embark on large-scale world tours. Despite this decision, he made it clear that he has no plans to retire from music.
In his Instagram post, Stewart stated, "This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire. I love what I do, and I do what I love." He shared a touch of humor, highlighting his fitness: "I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79."
Looking ahead, Stewart expressed his desire for future performances. He mentioned plans for a "Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour" in smaller venues, aiming for more intimate shows. He added some ambiguity, teasing, "But then again, I may not…," before signing off as "The Ambiguous Sir Rod Stewart."
His announcement follows news of his "One Last Time" tour. This tour will feature 20 new shows across the U.S. and Canada, beginning in March in Austin, Texas, and wrapping up in St. Louis in August. Before this, Stewart took the tour to Europe and Asia. Additionally, he is set to perform 13 shows in Las Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace from March to June.
Earlier this year, Stewart launched his 33rd studio album, "Swing Fever," in collaboration with Jools Holland. He shared insights with PEOPLE about his inclination to step back from large-scale tours while emphasizing he isn’t retiring. "I think this will be the last time ‘round for the rock ‘n’ roll stuff," he noted. His focus is shifting to swing music and the Great American Songbook, saying, "I’m not taking my songs to the cemetery and burying them. No more big tours."
