Ruby Franke's Daughter, Shari Franke, Describes "Scary" Abuse and "Psychological" Punishment
Shari Franke, the eldest daughter of Ruby Franke, has bravely discussed her painful childhood experiences. This comes after Ruby Franke, a parenting influencer, is serving a prison sentence for second-degree aggravated child abuse.
Shari shared the challenges she faced during her upbringing. In an interview with Good Morning America aired on January 7, she recalled how Ruby was physically abusive when she was just 5 or 6 years old. Shari stated, "Ruby was very physical," noting that punishment often involved a "slap on the lip or cheek." She described those moments as "really scary."
As Shari grew older, she experienced further distress when her mother partnered with Jodi Hildebrandt, who was also arrested on child abuse charges in 2023. Shari remarked, "I could for sure feel a shift," indicating that this relationship led to increased psychological abuse. She emphasized that this mental abuse "was more damaging to me."
The 21-year-old college graduate recalled being isolated from her family while attending college. "I certainly got weird vibes from Jodi and Ruby," she mentioned. Shari questioned the normalcy of a therapist living with her client, highlighting a disturbing dynamic in their relationship.
Since pleading guilty, Ruby and Jodi are both serving lengthy sentences. Each faces four consecutive one to 15-year terms — essentially four to 60 years — but their terms will be capped at 30 years in Utah due to their aggravated child abuse charges.
In her memoir, The House of My Mother, Shari reflects on her complex feelings toward Ruby. Despite recognizing their physical similarities, she stated emphatically that she does not wish to emulate her mother. "What she has done is so bad that I don't think her mind allows her to fully comprehend the guilt of all that," Shari observed. "She probably genuinely believes everything she's said."
