Saoirse Ronan Discusses Marriage, Reveals Husband Jack Lowden Won’t Sing ‘Shallow’
Saoirse Ronan offered insight into her marriage with husband Jack Lowden. The Irish actress made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 7 to promote her new film Blitz. During the show, host Jimmy Fallon congratulated Ronan on her recent marriage to the Slow Horses actor.
At 30 years old, Ronan and 34-year-old Lowden exchanged vows in July. Their wedding took place in an intimate ceremony in Edinburgh, Scotland, after being together for six years.
"I got married. I’m 30 now. I’m old!" Ronan shared updates about her life since her last visit on The Tonight Show. Fallon and Ronan reminisced about her 2018 appearance when they sang The Pogues’ "Fairytale of New York."
This reflection led Ronan to tell a charming story about her husband. "I’ve been desperate for myself and my husband Jack to do a cheesy karaoke duet," she said. "I want him to sing ‘Shallow’ from A Star is Born. I want him to be my Bradley [Cooper]. He won’t do it. What’s the point of marriage? What are we doing here?"
Ronan and Lowden first linked romantically in 2018 after starring together in Mary Queen of Scots. Over the years, the couple has been discreet about their relationship. Recently, while discussing their shared project The Outrun, which they both produced, Ronan mentioned her husband.
"He handed me the book, saying, ‘You have to play this,’" she noted about Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir that inspired the film. Ronan also expressed, "If you find people you love and trust creatively, why wouldn’t you want to work with them?" While discussing Lowden, she referred to him as her "comrade" and remarked on their mutual expectations.
