Sarah Ferguson Praises Her Marriage to Prince Andrew
Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson expressed deep admiration for her former marriage to Prince Andrew in a recent interview with The Sunday Times. The Duchess, aged 65, discussed her enduring affection for Andrew, who is 64 years old.
"I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew," she shared. "I would do it all over again, 100 percent. He’s a great man with a big heart and kindness. Our wedding was the best day of my life, but it cost me my anonymity. Love conquers all, and it remains with us today. I won’t let him down."
Ferguson emphasized mutual support in their relationship. "He supports me as much as I support him. His support extends beyond marriage or divorce," she explained. They both value the "three Cs": communication, compromise, and compassion.
The interview occurred before reports linked Prince Andrew to a businessman accused of being a Chinese spy. The Duke of York announced he had "ceased all contact" with the individual. He clarified that his meeting with this man was legitimate and conducted "through official channels" without any sensitive discussions.
Reflecting on past memories, Ferguson reminisced about the beginning of their relationship. "I first met Andrew when I was 12, and I imagined marrying him," she recalled. Their romance rekindled when Princess Diana invited Ferguson to Ascot in 1985. Six months later, they became engaged. Back then, royals couldn’t freely socialize or cohabitate.
Ferguson noted that today’s royals benefit from their experiences. She remarked that Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were able to get to know their partners better.
Her sister, Jane Luedecke, shared insights into their relationship in the same interview. "Sarah and Andrew are the best divorced couple I know. They’ve managed this for their children; it’s incredible," Luedecke said. She relished riding with Andrew at Windsor Castle during her visit to Royal Lodge in May.
Prince Andrew has faced serious controversies. In October 2019, Virginia Roberts Giuffre accused him of sexual assault related to his ties with the late Jeffrey Epstein. In a BBC Newsnight interview that November, Andrew firmly denied these claims, stating, "I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever." Giuffre alleges her forced encounters with Andrew occurred three times between 1999 and 2002.
