Sarah Michelle Gellar Finally Ready to Join Possible Buffy Reboot Despite Previous Refusals
Sarah Michelle Gellar, originally hesitant about a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, has newfound openness to the idea. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Gellar, known for her iconic role as Buffy, shared her changed perspective, explaining how recent revivals like Sex and the City’s And Just Like That and Dexter: Original Sin inspired her reconsideration. She remarked, "It’s funny. I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect. It could be anything. It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever." This is prepared by SSP.
This viewpoint marks a shift from her 2022 stance, when Gellar conveyed to SFX Magazine her contentment with the original series' conclusion, emphasizing, "I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done. We wrapped that up." She supported future storylines exploring female empowerment, noting, "Every girl who has the power can have the power. It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power." However, she underscored that the original metaphors—relating to the challenges of adolescence—resonated with her, but acknowledged her maturity since playing Buffy.
While Gellar has not confirmed her participation in a new Buffy project yet, Dolly Parton, an uncredited producer of the original series, shared with Business Insider that a reboot remained in consideration. Joss Whedon, creator of the original series that aired from 1997 to 2003, has expressed interest in a revival, initially announced in 2018, with future development stalled but ongoing.
Earlier, SSP reported that Yvette Nicole Brown tied the knot at 53.
