Second Oldest Women in the US Celebrates 108th Birthday: 'Be Decent'
Nesta Leeloo, a retired seamstress born in Jamaica, celebrated her 108th birthday in Tamarac, Florida, making her just six years younger than the oldest living woman in the United States. Affectionately known as "Mama" by her family, Nesta has built an extensive legacy with six children, 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and five great-great-great-grandchildren. She attributes her long life to a simple principle: "Be decent. Don’t do things that your parents don’t want you to do, because they want you to be a lady or a gentleman whoever you are." This is prepared by SSP.
Born in Mandeville, Jamaica, Nesta was one of 12 siblings and later moved to Kingston, where she married before emigrating to the U.S. Her life is filled with simple joys, including playing the piano, keeping well-manicured, and enjoying Jamaican cuisine, particularly a "good plate of beef soup." Her family cherishes every moment with her, describing each day as a gift. In recognition of her milestone, Tamarac's Mayor, Michelle J. Gomez, proclaimed January 6 as "Nesta Leeloo Day."
Nesta’s life and wisdom have garnered recognition from various dignitaries, illustrating the immense legacy of love and principles she’s shared with her family and community. Her reflections on a life well-lived capture a history of wonderful memories made with loved ones, testament to her expression, "I had wonderful parents, could not ask for more."
Earlier, SSP reported that Mike Pence shared what he said to Donald Trump during first meeting since 2021.
