Selena Gomez Reacts to Martin Short and Steve Martin Officiating Her Wedding, Shares Wedding Day Demands
Selena Gomez's "Only Murders in the Building" co-stars, Steve Martin and Martin Short, are bound to be memorable figures during her upcoming wedding to Benny Blanco.
During the March 27 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Gomez, 32, discussed the possibility of Martin, 79, and Short, 75, officiating her wedding to music producer Blanco. "Oh my gosh! I hadn't even thought about that," she admitted. PEOPLE reported.
However, the singer revealed she envisions an important role for one of them: "Marty is due to give a speech," she said firmly, adding, "I told him he must."
Gomez, referring to Martin Short, shared, "Steve will probably pull out his banjo," highlighting the "Father of the Bride" star's musical skills. She believes "Marty would have an epic speech" during the ceremony.
Previously, Gomez discussed Martin’s thoughtful way of reaching out through her assistant to congratulate her on her engagement. On "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", she mentioned, "Steve made sure he sent my assistant an email so my assistant could tell me congratulations. That’s how he communicates. It’s kind, but it’s okay to send a little text."
During her appearance on Kimmel's show, a viral clip showcased Short admiring her new engagement ring at the 2025 Golden Globes. Kimmel playfully asked, "Is he appraising it? What exactly is he doing there?"
Referring to her reaction, Gomez expressed confusion: "He’s twisting it. Taking it off. I wasn’t sure what he was doing; that’s why I look confused." She added with a laugh, "He just wanted to know what was going on. I don’t think he cared. Maybe a little…"
When Kimmel inquired about giving Martin and Short "jobs" at her wedding, including as "ring bearers," especially due to Short's fascination with her ring, Gomez responded, "That would be adorable."
Gomez announced her engagement to Blanco in December 2024 through an Instagram carousel displaying her engagement ring and a joyful picture with Blanco. She captioned the post, "forever begins now."
The day after her post, Martin extended his best wishes to Gomez on social media, sharing a photo of himself, Short, and Gomez with the caption, "Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two weird uncles."
