Sheinelle Jones Takes Time Off Due to Family Health Matter
Sheinelle Jones recently addressed her absences from the "Today" show, US Weekly reported. In an Instagram post on January 15, she expressed gratitude to those who reached out during her time away. "I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter," said Jones, 46.
Jones acknowledged the immense support from both her co-hosts and fans. "It’s not lost on me how lucky I am," she shared. She concluded with heartfelt thanks, stating, "Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle❤️."
Savannah Guthrie read Jones' update during the second hour of "Today," mentioning how much the audience misses her. Craig Melvin added heartfelt sentiments about looking forward to her return.
Over the past week, Jones’ absence became noticeably pronounced, particularly as she took a break during the holidays. On January 14, Melvin noted her day off on air. Fans expressed concern for Jones through comments on her social media. "What happened to Sheinelle in January 2025 on 3rd hour?" one user queried in response to her last post.
Despite her absence, she recently shared a December 2024 photo with her son, Kayin. This memorable moment included President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the holiday party. Jones and her husband, Uche Ojeh, parent three children together: Kayin, Clara, and Uche, who are twelve years old.
Fans continued to show support, wishing her well during this challenging time. One noted, "Your fans are missing you," and hoped for her return soon. Jones’ absence was particularly felt during significant "Today" events – she missed Hoda Kotb's farewell on January 10 and Craig Melvin's first day in the co-anchor role on January 13.
Jones had congratulated Melvin via Instagram back in November 2024 on his promotion. "If you’ve watched us over the last decade, you can tell that we’re all pretty close," she posted.
Sheinelle Jones joined "Weekend Today" as a co-host in 2014, transitioning to the third hour in 2019.
