Sophia Loren's Granddaughter Lucia Ponti Debuts in Style at Debutante Ball
Lucia Ponti, the granddaughter of Sophia Loren, made a dazzling entrance at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris on November 30. She paid homage to her iconic grandmother while dressed in a striking strapless striped gown designed by Giorgio Armani, as showcased in her mother Sasha Alexander's Instagram Stories.
This exclusive event honors 20 distinguished young women annually, aiming to raise funds for charities that benefit young women. Alongside 18-year-old Lucia, this year’s debutante list featured notable figures such as Apple Martin, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, as well as Sophie Kodjoe, daughter of actors Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kodjoe.
Lucia, whose father is Edoardo Ponti — Sophia Loren's younger son — has embraced her grandmother's legacy of beauty and grace. She attributes her fashion sense to Loren’s influence, having learned the importance of style from her iconic ancestor.
In an interview with Hello! published on November 25, Lucia remarked, "My grandmother always believed in timeless elegance and the importance of wearing something that reflects your true self." She continued, "Growing up, she taught me the value of simplicity, tailoring, and always adding a touch of uniqueness to your outfit." Lucia feels that her grandmother’s wardrobe was filled with garments that had stories, a mindset she cherishes.
Lucia, who studies English and art history at Brown University, also emphasized her close relationship with the film legend. "My grandmother and I are very close," she explained. "We visit her frequently in Geneva, and she comes to visit us in LA. I love her dearly, and despite the distance, we spend ample time together."
Throughout their bond, Lucia has absorbed significant life lessons from the Academy Award winner. She stated, "I admire her dedication to her values. She never forgoes her own authentic self to fit the expectations of others around her. I am infinitely inspired by her and always feel grateful to have such an amazing role model to look up to."
