Supernatural Reunion Confirmed for The Boys
The fifth and final season of The Boys promises to delight fans of the Winchester brothers. The anticipation rose when former Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, and Jensen Ackles announced their involvement.
On February 26, The Boys and Prime Video shared a joint Instagram Reel that left fans excited. "Season 5 just got a bit more supernatural," was the enthusiastic declaration.
Jensen Ackles, now 46, opened the clip with a quirky introduction. "Hey, Jared, we got work to do... again," he said. Jared Padalecki, aged 42, soon followed up with his own remark. "Okay. I'll tell Misha," he added. As he spoke, he revealed a special Chevrolet Impala featuring mystical symbols in its trunk.
Misha Collins, 50, joined in with a delighted thumbs-up, simply responding, "Okay."
Ackles in The Boys
Jensen Ackles made his debut in The Boys in season 3 as Soldier Boy. He is set to lead the spinoff, Vought Rising, with Aya Cash. Moreover, Ackles provided narration for The Winchesters, a short-lived Supernatural spinoff focusing on Dean and Sam’s parents.
With the premiere of The Boys season 4, creator Eric Kripke confirmed that season 5 would conclude the beloved series, which he also created. He remarked on X, emphasizing his original plan. "I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax."
Padalecki and Collins' Roles
Reports from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that both Padalecki and Collins will have guest roles in the upcoming season. However, specifics about their participation remain undisclosed. As the promotional video ended, Jared Padalecki humorously questioned, "What are we doing?"
Supernatural, which aired from 2005 to 2020 on The WB and later The CW, showcased Padalecki and Ackles as brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who battled supernatural creatures for 15 engaging seasons. Misha Collins joined the series in its fourth season, portraying Castiel. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who appeared in The Boys season 4, played the brothers’ father, John Winchester.
The Boys Franchise Distinction
In 2024, Kripke clarified for The Hollywood Reporter that The Boys is distinct from traditional superhero narratives. He stated, "The Boys and their spinoffs, none of them are really superhero shows. They have the suits and powers, but The Boys is a show about celebrity politics and late-stage capitalism."
This series features a complex array of characters that demonstrate varying moralities, contributing to solid cast dynamics. Since wrapping up Supernatural, its stars have maintained close connections.
In 2021, Padalecki expressed his deep affection for Ackles in an interview with The New York Times. "I love Jensen deeply. He’s my brother," Padalecki declared, underscoring their long-standing bond. Their shared experiences have solidified their friendship through years of shared work.
