Taylor Lautner Defends Selena Gomez From Body-Shaming Criticism
On Feb. 26, Taylor Lautner stood up for Selena Gomez, responding to body-shaming remarks. He stated, "It's a cruel world," emphasizing the negativity surrounding criticism.
The star of Twilight defended Gomez against trolls. He re-shared a side-by-side image showing Selena at the 2024 and 2025 SAG Awards. In his Instagram Story, he highlighted hurtful comments like "Oh she big big" and "She looked better thicc."
Taylor wrote, "It’s a cruel world full of hate out there. You can never please everyone nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn't make the words sting less; it just refocuses you onto what matters. The shape or color of your body isn't what matters. Daily reminder not to forget how beautiful you are inside and out… and to be a little nicer."
He has previously addressed body shaming himself, especially following his role as the ripped Jacob Black. To finish off his post, he included Selena's empowering song "Who Says," featuring lyrics like, "I'm no beauty queen, I'm just beautiful me."
Taylor is not alone in supporting Gomez. Others recently defended her from hateful comments. On the Feb. 25 episode of The View, Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg addressed criticism regarding Selena's weight. The discussion surrounded a Glamour op-ed titled "It’s Okay to Feel Hurt When Celebrities Lose Weight — but Let’s Unpack It."
Whoopi and Sunny challenged the article's implied message. Sunny remarked, "You don’t know what’s going on in that person’s life."
Selena has been open about her lupus diagnosis since 2015, which can impact her weight. She underwent a kidney transplant in 2017. The star from Wizards of Waverly Place has recognized the harsh judgment related to her fluctuating weight.
"I really noticed when people started attacking me for that," she said in a 2019 episode of Giving Back Generation. "That got to me big time."
