Travis Kelce Reflects on NFL Future After Super Bowl Loss
Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is considering his future following a painful Super Bowl defeat, PEOPLE reported. The Chiefs faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles, resulting in a 40-22 loss on Sunday, February 9, 2025. During the latest episode of the podcast "New Heights," which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis spoke about his uncertain status for next season.
"I know everybody wants to know whether or not I'm playing next year," he shared. "Right now, I'm just kicking everything down the road. I'm not making any crazy decisions." He emphasized the importance of support among teammates during this challenging time.
Travis expressed that the "biggest thing" for him and the team revolves around mutual understanding and being there for one another. Reflecting on the Super Bowl experience held at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Travis acknowledged the physical toll it takes. "There's a lot that goes into this thing, you know?" he remarked, highlighting the toll the sport can have on athletes.
Recognizing the defeat as a "tough pill to swallow," he added, "It's just a tough reality." Despite the anguish, Travis assured fans he would not rush into retirement decisions. "I'm gonna take some time to figure it out," he stated. "If I do come back, it's a wholehearted decision. I'm not half-assing it."
Jason Kelce, who retired from the NFL in March 2024 after a 13-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles, expressed his understanding. "You’re preaching to the choir, brother," he said. "It sucks when you get to this point in the career where it can become harder to continue."
Travis acknowledged that having supportive friends and family, such as his girlfriend Taylor Swift, made the loss more bearable. "After the game, I had my best friends and my loved ones around me," he reflected. "It made it not feel like the worst day of my life." Nonetheless, he recognized that the disappointment from the game would linger. "It's just life, man. It's life."
