Wendy Osefo Reacts to Karen Huger's Sentencing
Wendy Osefo from "The Real Housewives of Potomac" expressed her feelings about Karen Huger's recent sentencing. "I was definitely shocked, but I’m keeping her in my prayers during this difficult time," Osefo, 40, stated in an exclusive interview with *Us Weekly*. This occurred at the 18th annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards on February 27 in Los Angeles.
On February 26, Karen Huger, 61, was sentenced to two years in jail, with one year suspended due to a DUI incident from March 2024. The self-described "Grande Dame" of Potomac must serve one year in custody and was ordered to report directly to police following her sentencing.
During the court session, the judge told Huger, "You were filled to the gills with alcohol," as reported by Fox 5 DC. Following a car accident in March 2024, she faced charges including DUI and DWI, plus negligent driving endangering property and life. Huger was found guilty of almost all charges in December 2024, though she was acquitted of reckless driving.
Attorney A. Scott Bolden commented, "Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we respect their decision. We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to seek justice for her." He thanked supporters for their prayers.
On a related note, fellow RHOP star Ashley Darby, 36, disclosed she "cried like a baby" upon hearing Huger’s sentencing news. Darby urged, "I really do encourage everyone to keep Karen in your prayers." She learned about the situation on her train ride to her destination.
Gizelle Bryant, a co-star who helped launch the Bravo series with Huger and Darby in 2016, shared her shock. "I do not have her wigs. I am concerned," Bryant, 54, raised during her live event at City Winery. She added, "Karen ain’t cut out for jail. I pray that she’s OK."
Bryant also mentioned her plans to visit Huger. She commented on her conversation with Andy Cohen about the situation: "One of the last things he said to me is, ‘When this show started nine seasons ago, never in my wildest dreams would I think any of the ladies would be going to jail for five minutes — let alone a year.’"
