X is currently working on a new feature aimed at tackling spam on its platform
X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is actively working on a new feature to combat spam posts on their website. The company aims to provide users with the option to disable links in replies as a way to reduce spam. Independent app researcher, Nima Owji, who has previously discovered unreleased X features, revealed this development. A screenshot shared by Owji showcases a checkbox that allows users to prevent others from responding with links to their posts.
Christopher Stanley, Senior Director for Security Engineering at X, confirmed the existence of this feature in response to a related post, stating that his team was responsible for its implementation. The primary objective of this feature is to keep spam bots at bay, but it may have an impact on legitimate users as well. While it curbs individuals from promoting their websites within others' posts, it may also hinder users from sharing legitimate sources to debunk false information and combat the spread of fake news.
Owji's previous discoveries included X's experiments with an in-app currency, which aimed to facilitate creators in earning money from the platform. Additionally, in response to rampant impersonation issues, he uncovered the company's plans for new ID verification features. Moreover, X was also exploring job listings to compete with LinkedIn, focusing on verified organizations.
By implementing features like link-blocking in replies and tackling issues such as impersonation and securing job listings, X demonstrates their commitment to enhancing user experiences and safeguarding the platform's integrity.
