Billie Eilish to travel without brother Finneas O’Connell for first time
Billie Eilish is embarking on her "Hit Me Hard and Soft" tour without the consistent presence of her brother and collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, for the first time. This shift signifies Eilish’s transition from teen sensation to a self-sufficient adult, as O’Connell affirmed in a Vogue interview. Previously inseparable, O’Connell had always toured with his now 22-year-old sister to play guitar and support her from the sidelines, feeling it necessary to oversee every stage at the age of 16 or 17.
However, after years of touring, it is evident that Eilish has matured into adulthood, showcasing a disciplined touring regime that includes sleeping through the day, rigorous physical therapy, and diligent vocal warm-ups to maintain her performance quality. Despite his absence from the tour, O’Connell’s own solo career blossoms as he just released his new album "For Cryin' Out Loud" and is gearing for a solo tour next February.
Maggie Baird, their mother, and Patrick O’Connell have also been integral to their daughter’s tours, with Baird humorously acknowledging in Vogue how she’s handled everything from itinerary management to emergency burrito delivery. Despite knowing the importance of her role, Baird and her husband plan to retreat this tour, comparing it to Eilish’s "college years"—a step towards independence.
Nevertheless, Eilish will not be completely alone; her live band now includes some childhood friends, and the tour will feature Nat and Alex Wolff as the opening act, whom she considers among her closest friends. This promises an enjoyable tour experience, which Eilish expressed should be incredibly fun.
