Cardi B Discusses Her Postpartum Journey and Workout Routine After Third Baby
Cardi B recently explained her decision to work out shortly after giving birth to her third child, addressing societal pressures and expectations. The 31-year-old rapper gave birth on September 7 and announced her baby's arrival on Instagram five days later, captioning "The prettiest lil thing 🌸🌸 9/7/24."
Just over a week later, Cardi shared footage of herself exercising on Instagram Stories. The clip went viral on X (formerly Twitter), prompting some fans to express concerns, questioning the pressure on women in the entertainment industry. One comment underlined this concern: "It’s barely been a week. Yoh, the pressure women in the industry are under? Insane."
Cardi responded, emphasizing that her third postpartum experience was unique, stating she wasn't doing heavy lifting or muscle straining but simply engaging in cardio. She explained that staying active helps her avoid postpartum depression: "Sometimes to avoid postpartum depression you gotta keep your mind busy and for me that’s work and staying active." She highlighted the double standards she faces, mentioning how people criticized her for weight gain while pregnant and now questioned her fitness regimen: "Y’all dragged me down when I gained 15 pounds... now yall fake concerned and wanna talk about pressure???"
Following Cardi's detailed response, the fan apologized, clarifying that their intent was to critique societal expectations rather than Cardi herself. Other users showed support, stressing that Cardi should prioritize what makes her happy, resonate her saying: "You owe no one an explanation."
Cardi, who co-parents daughter Kulture, 6, and son Wave, 3, with her estranged husband Offset, also spoke about how she's handling postpartum differently this time. Opening up about her mental state, she acknowledged that while she's "never been the type to snap back after birth," she's fueled by newfound energy to stay active and achieve her goals: "...You, your brother, and your sister have shown me why it’s worth it to push through!"
The rapper concluded that her actions, whether returning to work or maintaining fitness, are personal and tailored for her well-being: "So yeah I’m taking this personal but it's FOR ME because either way y’all are gonna have something to say." Although she hasn’t revealed her newborn's name, Cardi expressed immense love and admiration for her "little baby," who inspires her daily. This engagement sheds light on societal pressures on postpartum women and underscores the importance of individual approaches to motherhood and health.
