Kevin Costner takes bold turn in his career with new film 'Headhunters'
Kevin Costner is set to make a daring shift in his career with the upcoming surfing thriller film "Headhunters," marking a significant change from the Westerns he's mostly known for. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Bali, this project will see the Oscar-winning actor of 69 venture into a genre largely unexplored by him.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Costner is transitioning away from Westerns that have largely defined his career—projects such as the less successful "Horizon: An American Saga" and his renowned role in "Yellowstone." In "Headhunters," Costner is not only starring but also producing and co-writing the film under the Territory Pictures brand. Partnering with Steven Holleran, a cinematographer turned director who originated the concept, the film aims to merge the exhilarating energy of surfing culture with the suspense element intrinsic to horror.
"Headhunters" unfolds in a tranquil paradise that spirals into a survivalist ordeal, tracing the journey of Costner's character, Lazer, a tired American living in Bali. Teaming up with Daniel Zovatto's character, Bima, they venture into uncharted territory to find the perfect surf, which unfortunately turns into a desperate fight for survival.
Currently in pre-production in Hawaii, filming is set to commence next month. Praising the creation, Producer Scott Steindorff labeled the script among the best he has examined, specifically highlighting Costner's compelling charisma and capacity as a deeply nuanced actor.
