Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson Finalize Divorce Settlement After 13 Months
Nearly 13 months after filing for divorce, Tina Knowles, the mother of pop stars Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, has reached a settlement with her ex-husband, Richard Lawson.
The duo, who wed onboard a 140-foot yacht in Newport Beach, California, on April 12, 2015, parted ways citing irreconcilable differences. Beyoncé, Solange, Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z, and their eldest daughter Blue Ivy were among the intimate attendees of the wedding. Prior to their romantic relationship, Knowles and Lawson had been platonic friends for decades. Knowles expressed feeling divinely blessed upon rekindling their bond, which served as a positive turn after her first devastating divorce.
Knowles, 70, officially filed for divorce from Lawson, 77, in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles on July 26, 2023. This legal action came one day after their officially listed separation date. The documents underscore the marriage's irremediable breakdown, making it impossible for them to continue living together as husband and wife.
Per the settlement disclosed by PEOPLE, both parties have waived rights to spousal support. Knowles has agreed to a one-time payment of $300,000 to Lawson, concluded as part of a ‘full and complete’ settlement of interests accrued during their marriage. This includes obligations concerning community property debts. Lawson retains a 2021 Cadillac Escalade, rights to his earnings since separation, assets from Richard Lawson Studios Inc., his SAG pension plan, and all creative works made during their union, along with personal items.
In turn, Knowles maintains ownership of their properties in Los Angeles and Texas, all associated furnishings, a 2018 Tesla, a 2020 Bentley, a book deal with Penguin Random House, and a 1% interest in Kirby Beauty Management LLC. Additionally, like Lawson, she holds rights to her earnings and creative works acquired post-separation.
To end on an amicable note, Knowles and Lawson endorsed a "non-disparagement agreement" within the settlement. This entails mutual consent over public statements about their divorce and a commitment not to speak negatively about their children, grandchildren, or their spouses.
